Newell GU

Newell GU is the artistic name of Francois Guglielmina, a multidisciplinary artist whose practice unfolds between painting, image, memory, and spatial perception.

Born in France and based in Miami, his work is shaped by a sustained dialogue between art, architecture, and design. After decades of experience in architecture, he developed a visual language rooted in layering, rhythm, fragmentation, and material presence.

Working across painting, photography, drawing, and mixed media, Newell GU does not describe places literally. Instead, he reinterprets them through color, abstraction, and sequence, transforming impressions of landscape, vegetation, water, and urban fragments into works that feel both instinctive and constructed.

The Miami Series, developed from an extensive body of drawings and paintings created between 2020 and 2022, reflects this approach. Inspired by the city’s light, vegetation, atmosphere, and visual intensity, the series builds a graphic and chromatic world where realism, abstraction, and minimal gesture intersect.

His works are often conceived as individual pieces or in sequences of two and three, creating visual echoes and shifts in perception. Through accumulation, contrast, and repetition, they invite a slower reading, where memory and sensation gradually emerge.
